Birthday Bash: Watch Michael Owen’s Top 5 goals

Michael Owen was one of the most prolific scorers of his generation. He played for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle, Manchester United, Stoke City and obviously for England national team.

Before his retirement due to several injuries, he scored 222 goals for clubs and 40 goals for his country. He had a great technical ability, blistering pace and he was always opportunistic to find the back of net. Among his bunches of goals, it is hard to pick his top 5 goals. But it is our choice of his best 5 goals to give him a tribute on his birthday.

5. England Vs Argentina World cup 1998

It is one of many early glimpses of Michael Owen that the world had shown. Against Argentina he received the ball from David Beckham passed two opposition defenders and fired into the top corner. It was the perfect combination of Pace, strength and precision.

4. Real Madrid Vs Barcelona 2005

It was also almost the same kind of goal. Again a pass from Beckham found his way to Owen’s feet and he beat couple of Barcelona defender with pace and finished with outside of his boot. A good goal in a derby is always special.

3.  Liverpool Vs Arsenal FA Cup final 2001

It is dubbed as Michael Owen’s final. He scored two wonderful goals in 83rd and 88th minute to help Liverpool lift the trophy and eventually complete the treble. Both are specials. But the second goal was of real quality. For the first goal, he volleyed the ball home from close range in a crowded area. The second one was from a long ball from Berger. He passed two defenders but went acute and still managed to find the bottom corner.

2. England Vs Luxemburg Euro Qualifier 1999

This time it was pure class. A placement from outside the eighteen yards box into the top corner showed his ability of long ranger goal as well. It was not very powerful, but the composure from a tough angle signifies this goal’s inclusion in the list.

1. Liverpool Vs Benfica Friendly 2000

In my opinion, it is the best of the lot. In a friendly match against Benfica, Owen got the ball from right side. He did not receive it and took an acrobatic side volley first time into the corner. It’s a wonderful goal to watch for any football fan.
