Aston Villa vs Arsenal : Highlights, Match stats and a review

1

Following their midweek Champions League success, Arsenal registered a regular win against bottom-placed Aston Villa to go top of the Premier League.

It was again a disappointing outing for Remy Garde’s boys as Arsene Wenger’s side produced a thoroughly professional performance to clinch all three points from the Villa Park. In spite of making more than twice the number of attempts Arsenal have managed, the quality mattered in the end.

Alan Hutton’s pull-back on Walcott from behind resulted in an early spot-kick for the Gunners. Olivier Giroud saw this opportunity through to make it five goals in his last three appearances. After conceding so early in the match, it was too hard for the Villans to get back into the match.

Just half an hour later, it was Aaron Ramsey’s running power awarded Arsenal the second goal. A brilliant counter-attacking move, which was started by the Welshman’s tackle on Gueye back on his own half, was perfectly finished by him on the other end of the pitch. Moreover, it was Mesut Ozil’s 13th assist in the League this season, six more than any other player.

Practically, the match was sealed off in the first half. The home side tried to fight back in the second but some occasional sparks were not enough to deny Petr Cech his 169th Premier League clean sheet. The veteran shot-stopper now equals David James’ record in the top flight and he took nearly 200 matches less than his predecessor.

This win will keep Wenger’s boys in a happy mood as they now have eight days in hand to prepare for the big clash against Manchester City next Monday. On the other hand, Villa’s misery continued as they are facing an uphill task to stay out of the relegation zone.
