Players who will be missed in the latter part of 2015-16 Champions League

Some teams have secured their passage in the knockout of the Champions League. Some are relegated to Europa League and some are eliminated. The teams that will not take further part in this season’s competition are Shakhtar, Malmo, Manchester United, CSKA Moscow, Galatasaray, Astana, Sevilla, Monchengladbach, Leverkusen, Bate Borisov, Olympiacos, Dinamo Zagreb, Porto, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Valencia and Lyon. This is very difficult to choose but still here are best eleven players who will be missed in this year’s Champions League:

(Champions League) Best eleven from the eliminated teams
(Champions League) Best eleven from the eliminated teams

Goal Keeper:

David De Gea:

Manchester United lost the last match against Wolfsburg in the group stage. So they finished third and David De Gea, their star goal-keeper will have to play in Europa League. Manchester United is struggling in front of goal since the beginning of the season but they are very good at back. David De Gea helped his team to consolidate this status. Though he conceded three in the last match, he conceded only seven with two clean sheets. He saved a lot of shots at crucial times, yet he could not stop the elimination from this competition this time.

Chris Smalling:

Along with his fellow goal keeper De Gea, he also performed very well this season. In fact he may be the discovery of this season of Manchester United. He performed consistently and despite losing so many players due to injury he kept his composure. It is sad that he will not take part further in the competition this season.

Darijo Srna:

Srna is representing this team since 2003 and played over 400 games for them. This is very disappointing campaign for Srna and Shakhtar. Among the Shakhtar players, very few performed well and he is one of them. They were drawn into a tough group. But a better campaign was expected from the fans. He defended well, went forward and even netted one goal, still did not get too much support. The defenders should support him in Europa League for a better result.

Jonathan Tah:

Leverkusen did not outdo Roma in head to head to progress as the second team in group E behind Barcelona. The strong muscular defender stood well but couple of times the mistake from his colleagues cost them heavily. It’s sheer luck that he is not able to play in round of 16. He and his team should do well in Europa League.

Hakan Calhanoglu:

The free kick specialist also missed the knockout of this competition. He scored two goals and assisted 3 more but that was not enough to qualify. Actually they were good in attack but conceding goals at bad time cost them. His free kicks and well distributed passes will be missed in this competition but we hope to see more in Europa League.

Lars Stindl:

He and his team started poorly but recovered well. But ultimately they are out of Europe this time. He is the only player in the list who will not even in Europa League. He played well, scored 3 and assisted one. They did not have too much expectation but they played well occasionally. If they perform on a regular basis, they can progress further in coming years.

Ever Banega:

Sevilla are twice defending Europa League Champions and they are back onto that. They were probably in the ‘Group of Death’ and eventually finished third to book a Europa League place. Ever Banega gave them stability and he scored two goals from the spot. He is expected to do better in Europa League.

Alex Teixeira:

Shakhtar have scored 7 goals in two matches and failed to score in rest four. Teixeira scored 3 of them. He played well but did not receive too much support. He scored twice against Real Madrid to ignite a hope of a miraculous comeback but eventually was unsuccessful. Nevertheless, he was eye-catching to many fans and experts.

Admir Mehmedi:

Another standout player for Leverkusen is Admir Mehmedi. The Swiss international scored 4 goals and produced some eye catching performance. Actually the games against Roma cost them. They played well but could not turn it into their favor.

Javier Hernandez:

Manchester United are lacking goals at this moment and looking for a striker. But their former man Hernandez is scoring regularly. He scored 5 goals this season. Chicharito is very well inside penalty box. He smells the opportunity to score. And it is quite sure he will score many goals in coming time and in Europa League.

Yevhen Konoplyanka:

Konoplyanka adjusted well since his “Bossman Transfer” from Dnipro. And he also played well in the Champions League as well. He scored two goals and assisted one. Actually 4 consecutive losses caused his team. He was the semi-finalist last year and his present team was defending champion so they probably expected even better from him.

This is based on this year’s performance in the UEFA Champions League Group stage. So some star and excellent players like Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Lucas Podolski are not included.
