The four match India vs South Africa test series has finally seen the home team at their best. Second test was washed out due to incessant rain. But, India defeated the Proteas convincingly in all other tests. This emphatic 3-0 series win has also taken them to the second position in ICC test ranking.

Here are a few records that were broken during the India vs South Africa test series.

This was India’s biggest margin of victory in terms of runs, in test cricket. Their previous best was 320-run win against Australia at Mohali in 2008.

Umesh Yadav now can boast of the best economy in a test innings by a pacer. Overall, he is ranked 11th, but all others above him were spinners or slow medium pacers. Also, his record is the best after 1977. Quite an achievement by Yadav.

In a single test, South African batsmen managed to secure the top three positions in one list. This is the list of slowest partnerships ever, when the duo played a minimum of 200 balls. During the last test of India vs South Africa series, Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers scored 27 runs at a rate of 0.64 runs per over. AB and Faf du Plessis later scored 35 runs at a rate of 0.99. And earlier in the innings, Amla and Bavuma managed to get 1.13 runs per over during their partnership of 44. They are third in this list.

Ravindra Jadeja bowled 17 consecutive maiden overs in the last test. He is now the second in this list. The first position has been secured by Bapu Nadkarni (21 consecutive maidens) since 1963-64.

Jadeja also has the second best economy in a test innings, for a spell of minimum 30 overs. And as one can guess easily, top position is in the name of Nadkarni, who bowled 32 overs at an overwhelming economy of 0.15.

India vs South Africa fourth test also saw some resilient batting from the visitors. Hashim Amla recorded an achievement in the process. His innings of 25 from 244 balls is the one with the lowest strike rate ever, for an innings of at least 200 balls.

Ravichandran Ashwin was adjudged the Man of the Series. Incidentally, he now has the highest number of Man of the Series awards among the Indians. Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar also got the award 5 times. But, Ashwin played only 12 series while Sehwag played 39 and Sachin played 74.
