Before we head on to a European break, another exciting Premier League weekend is knocking at the door. As always, plenty are at stake for the teams. English Premier League is considered to be the most competitive league in Europe. That is evident from the table too, where the difference between the first and tenth team is only 9. On the other hand, fourth placed Arsenal are only two points away from the top of the table. Naturally, lots of twists and turns are expected.
Here are five most exciting things that we will be looking forward to this weekend.
Can Stoke City hold the fort against the league leaders?
It may sound unbelievable. But there is a realistic chance of this happening! Stoke City have maintained three clean sheets in their last four Premier League matches. Only last weekend, they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sunderland. However, it should also be mentioned that their captain and star defender Ryan Shawcross was sent off midway through that match. That red card eventually proved to be fatal for the Potters. On the other hand, their opponents are Manchester City who have scored 30 goals, the most by any Premier League team. The current league leaders had a brilliant start in this season. However, it had been a roller coaster ride of late. They suffered a humiliating 1-4 defeat against Liverpool. But, Manuel Pellegrini’s men came back strong against Southampton and won it 3-1. Naturally, it will be interesting to see if Stoke City can bring out another magical performance and keep Aguero and co at bay.
Top spot fight among Manchester City, Leicester City, Manchester United and Arsenal
As I mentioned above, top four teams are within 2 points of each other. Obviously, any team can take the top spot with an emphatic win. Manchester City and Leicester City both are at 29 points. While the former faces Stoke, the surprise package of this season will take an away trip to Swansea. Manchester United, at the third position, will welcome West Ham United at Old Trafford. Arsenal, on the other hand, have an easy home fixture against Sunderland. It is clear that no team can afford to lose any point this weekend. The race to the zenith has become really interesting, don’t you think?
Jamie Vardy’s run – will it continue against Swansea?
He finally broke Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record last weekend. With a goal against Manchester United, he can now boast of scoring in 11 consecutive games. And it’s quite possible that he will take his tally to 12. This weekend’s opponent is Swansea, a side who had only 2 clean sheets this season. Moreover, they conceded 14 goals in their last 8 matches. Jamie Vardy surely has the chance to carry on his form.
What’s going to happen with Chelsea?
This is probably a million dollar question at the moment. Every time the Blues took the field this season, they have surprised everyone. Either with an unexpected loss against a weaker side or with a mind-blowing performance against a strong team, Chelsea have hit the headlines every week. This time, they are going to welcome Bournemouth. The visitors had quite an outing last weekend. Against Everton, they were trailing 0-2 at the 80th minuite. And then two injury time goals helped them finish the game 3-3. That well-earned one point will boost the newly promoted side against inconsistent Chelsea. It will be worthwhile to see if they can pull off a stunning win against Jose Mourinho’s men.
Everton vs Crystal Palace
This is going to be the last match of this Premier League game-week. And what an exciting match is on the cards. On one hand, we have Everton who scored 14 goals in their last four matches and on the other, there is Crystal Palace who scored five times last week. In addition to that, with seven wins so far, they are two spots above Everton in the Premier League table. However, a win in this clash will take the home side above Crystal Palace. With in form Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, it is more likely that Everton will clinch a win. Nevertheless, the Eagles are not a team to give in. All in all, an extraordinary fixture to wait for.
