Away from Manchester? Former boss Eriksson suggests Rooney his Final Destination

Rooney should finish his career in China which is a “great place” according to his former England Boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, reported by Evening Standard.

Wayne Rooney struggled to get into form this season and he has been blamed for Manchester United’s poor attacking display in Premier League, this season. Some people believe that an instinctive goal-scorer like Rooney should not be employed as a no. 10 behind summer signing Anthony Martial.

Eriksson, who served as the England manager from 2001 to 2006, is now working as the head coach of Shanghai SIPG in China since 2014. Previously, he worked in Guangzhou R & F in 2013-14 seasons. China is now attracting big names like Robinho, Paulinho, Gyan, Demba Ba etc in recent years.

He really wishes that Rooney will join him. “It would be fantastic if he could come out here to China,” Eriksson expressed. Rooney is now somewhat out of form this season. So, the Sweden International wants him to come join his club once his contract expires with Manchester United. Rooney is contracted until 2019.

Eriksson expresses his enjoyment working with Rooney back in England when he was in charge of England International Team from 2001 to 2006 and hopes Rooney can bring a new level in Chinese football.

“Rooney would take this league to another level. Everybody in China knows the superstar players like him.It is fantastic and would be a great place for [Rooney] to finish his career”, He added.

Unarguably, the current England Captain still has a lot of competitive football left in him. Joining a MLS side at the end of an illustrious European career has been a new trend but Eriksson’s interests could see Rooney become an exception and move to China in stead.
