Former World Cup winning Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro has been sentenced to ten months in prison.
The former Juventus and Real Madrid centre back was sentenced to the custodial term as he had ignored orders to stay out of his property after it was seized by authorities due to suspected abuse of planning regulations.
Cannavaro failed to adhere to the ruling and was caught swimming in his pool on the property along with his wife.
The 41 year old’s partner, Daniela Arenoso has also been sentenced to four months while his brother Paolo who currently plays in Serie A for Sassuolo received a six month sentence.
The Cannavaro brothers and Daniela have appealed and as a result their sentences will be postponed until the outcome of that appeal is determined.
Cannavaro and his company Fd Service have been under investigation for tax evasion with the Italian Agency of Revenue reportedly claiming around €1m in underpaid taxes between 2005 and 2010.
