1936 -“Allen’s Test” : G Allen’s 5-wicket haul for 36 led to a collapse for the Aussies and they were bundled out for 58 runs. This match was incidentally Sir Don Bradman’s first match as captain. 1980-Benson and Hedges World Series Cup 1980/81 India won the close encounter against the Kiwis by 5 runs in a low scoring match. Gavaskar won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision turned out to be disaster as he was dismissed on the very first bowl.India had no answer to Richard Hadlee’s bowling and were bowled out for 162.Hadlee finished the match with a figure of 5/32.Chasing the small target of 163 at a typical WACA pitch, the Kiwis lost wickets at regular intervals .They were struggling at 80/6 but then a 50-runs stand between Hadlee and Cairns brought them back in the hunt. But in the end the Indians held on there nerves to win the match. Binny was exceptional with a figure of 4/41.
1997 : In a low scoring match between Australia and South Africa, Lance Klusener took 5 for 25 runs as Oz were bowled out for 125.
1979 : Vivian Richards smacked Aussies all round the park amassing 153* runs studded with 16 fours and a six. He, along with Haynes(80), put on 205 runs for the third wicket.
1979 : Dilip Vengsarkar’s 146 runs against Pakistan in second inning put India in the winning situation. However, chasing 390, in the end, India fell short by 26 runs as the match ended in draw.
1993 : On this day, famous Australian bowler Glenn McGrath and Wagga product Michael Slater made their one day international debut.
1959 : Hanif Mohammad as we all know is famous for his rare-guard actions.In one such occasion he single handedly saved the match for Pakistan against Australia where he scored 101* batting for six hours ,against the likes of Benaud,Davidson and Lindwall .
1996 :Chinaman Adam 6/55 led to fall of India in first inning in Kanpur Test.Nevertheless India won the match by huge margin of 280 runs thanxs to Azhar’s elegant century. 2011:New Zealand collapse to 150 after fine spell of 5/51 from Pattinson in 2011 Hobart Test.
1992 : Kapil Dev ‘Mankaded’ Peter Kirsten during Port Elizabeth One Day International.
1984 – The Frank Worrell Trophy : Malcolm Marshall took 5 for 69 in the first inning followed with another 5 for 38 in the second one to help West Indies defeat Australia by a huge margin of 191 runs.
1992 – Call of legend : It was Muttiah Muralitharan’s first match winning performance. He took 3 for 22 and 4 for 134 in Colombo Test against Kiwis.
