Zico and Trapattoni poised to get managerial roles in Indian Super League

After 24 hours of the official launch of Indian Super League, the inaugural season is set to draw more attention as the former Brazilian Legend Zico and veteran Italian  manager Giovanni Trapattoni are set to begin new adventures on Indian soil as the managers of two ISL teams.

The Brazillian maestro, often referred to as ‘White Pele’, had been approached from the Goa franchise a couple of weeks earlier to take on their marquee managerial role. Talks are going to reach over an agreement soon, our sources can confirm. But the Goa franchise are keeping their hands wide open with options like Spanish international Fernando Morientes and Italian legend Fabio Cannavaro.

Zico, known as the master of free-kicks, was seen in a similar kind of role for big clubs like J-League side Tashima Antlers, Turkish giants Fenerbahce, Russian outfit CSKA Moscow and Qatar champions Al-Gharafa. From the sidelines, his major successes include guiding a struggling Fenerbahce side to Champions League quater-final stage in 2008.

In another news, the most successful manager in Serie A history is being roped in as the marquee manager of Chennai Titans. Giovanni Trapattoni, popularly known as ‘Trap’, is one of the four managers, alongside Jose Mourinho, to win 10 league titles in four different countries. Over the years, he had his taste of success with clubs like Bayern Munich, A C Milan, Inter, Juventus and more high-profile names to add up.

His Inter Milan connection and the European club’s possible link-up with Abhishek Bachchan franchise may result in him taking the charge of the outfit.

Zico travelled to India in 2004 as the coach of Japan Nation Team and  his troops demolished the doomed Indians in a 7-0 win at Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata whereas Trapattoni has never set his foot on Indian soil before.
